Paint Defects
Causes
- Film build too high
- Hardener or thinner too fast
- Flash-off times between coats too short
- Flash-off times before baking or infrared drying too long
- Distance too small for infrared drying, which leads to excessive drying temperatures
Insufficient flash-off intervals between the individual coats in wet-on-wet processes
Prevention
- Keep to the film builds as recommended
- Use hardener and thinner appropriate to the ambient temperature
- Respect the prescribed flash-off times between coats
- When you use infrared drying, respect the recommended distances and intensity levels
- Respect the recommended film thickness and flash-off periods between coats
How to repair
- Sand the paint film back to a sound substrate
- Repaint the area sanded down using suitable undercoat and finishing materials
